Away...

Been away for a few days. A busy mother's day weekend and my wrist is acting up on me again, making it difficult to draw or paint, unfortunatly.

In the mean time here's a little info for the new Lincoln movie coming out this year. The realistic one.  Not the alternative history one....

Birds on a Fence pt2

"If two birds are sitting on a fence, and you shoot one, how many birds are left?"
None. The other will fly away.

Birds on a Fence pt1

Some more paint work today. This piece was inspired by Lincoln's favorite riddle.

"If two birds are sitting on a fence, and you shoot one, how many birds are left?"

It's a work in progress, and still wet.

Painting practice

Spent some time with my paints tonight. It felt good. I was making some progress and I was excited about it again. No reference was used tonight, and I think it came out pretty well for a paint sketch. every thing else around the page is just practice and experimentation.

And, no, Lincoln is not meant to be sprouting from the tree, that's just how it all fell into place.

The Conspirator

I'm tired and trying to focus on some other projects tonight.

Have you seen "The Conspirator"? A very well done movie. And the camera used in the last scenes of the movie belongs to a good friend  of mine.

squinting

just a fast one. I've been doing a lot of "fast ones" lately. Or missing days entirely. I've got my paints out now, so hopefully over the next few days I'll have some paint experimentations.

Bring the Pain(t)

Well, I briefly tried my paints tonight. something very simple, but I learned something. I need practice. it's been about 10 years since I painted.... Time to get those brush strokes back...

Lincoln Trek

Thanks to the miracle of Netflix, I've been watching a lot of Star Trek lately. That in mind, I did a sketch of Lincoln as he appeared in Star Trek the Original Series in the episode The Savage Curtain, as portrayed by  Lee Bergere.

Wrong Lincoln

Hmm... I've been working at a service center too long...
Sadly, this kept my attention even shorter than usual.
I think I need to mix up my medium.
I need to work up some gumption and get my paints out...

A treasury list...

Trying to focus on  writing project tonight, so I'd like to share the work of some amazing artists on Etsy. Some of these were on previous post, but I filled it out with some additional work. Please have a look around at the works of these artists who took inspiration from a great man.

Late night, early night

Again, things ran late, and the energy is running low. I had a great time learning Russian at a Mexican restaraunt tonight.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Well, if your heard of this book/movie, you probably new this was coming. My first impression was curiosity/shame. But... I've started the book and I'm facinated. i love the way the book blends real history with the vampire story line.

Things are running late tonight, so I'm just posting the trailer for the movie. Enjoy!

A drawing of a drawing

I found this great drawing of lincoln with the really intense eyes. i wish I knew where it came from or if it's even from the period, but it inspired me. I had planned on just a quick sketch, but I got into it and i like how it turned out.

Statuesque

I've often wondered what historical people would think of the statues erected of them. And I'm not talking about kings, conquerors, and dictators that have have statues of themselves made. But the statues made for the honor of the subject by a people who are acknowledging the impact that person had on their lives. what would Abraham Lincoln think of the statues that have been erected in his honor since his death almost 150 years ago? Especially the massive Lincoln Memorial (reference for tonight's sketch and a few of my other pieces). What would the son of an illiterate carpenter, born in the back woods of Kentucky, think of the Grecian monument fit for Zeus that bears his name...

lacking

oi, lacking in inspiration and focus again. I tried a full piece for the statue again, and I actually scrapped that one. First one I full out quit on. It just was not going where I wanted and I couldn't get it back. So, I've got a quick rough sketch.

Senn Park

The reference for today's piece was a statue of young Lincoln in Senn Park, in Chicago. It's just a quick (highly rushed and unfocused) sketch, but I like the light and shadows on my reference, and I'll do something a little more in depth tomorrow when I have a little more time.

Lincoln Sim

I had this ready yesterday, and forgot to post it! Nothing big, just having fun in the Sims 3 and making Mr Lincoln.

I think he came out pretty well with what the game allows. The mole is on the wrong side, but that's the only place the game would allow it.

And here's Abe wardrobe...
                             Everyday...     Formal....       Pajama's...  Athletic....  Swimwear...

Tonight, I'm just posting the cleaned up versions of some previous entries.

President of Stars

I finally broke down and took the time to install a photo editing software on my computer. I'll start working on cleaning up some past entry's and reposting them. Today's project was done on the computer. Turned out to be more challenging than I anticipated. I think I missed the mark, not quite elaborate enough for a playing card. I might work on elaborating on it some more later.

Also, here is the secret woodwork project I've been working on for a while.
Some friends of mine are having a baby, and I made some toys for the baby. They are carved from cherry wood and varnished with a natural linseed oil and beeswax finish. I think I might make some more to sell on my Etsy store.

The eyes have it.

Another quick eye. Same eye, different reference, about 10 years younger I believe.

Shapes

A little experiment tonight with drawing in enclosed shapes instead of lines. I made two attempts. when I'm feeling brave and ambitious enough to get out my paints I might retry this  as a modern painting...

Doodles

nothing in depth tonight. The top one was done all in squiggles, the bottom was all done without lifting the pen.
